The Neighborhood

Roxbury, named after the sedimentary rock that lies beneath the area, is a neighborhood that offers a rich architectural history, pleasant green spaces and numerous shopping and dining establishments. The community has several historic neighborhoods, including the Moreland Street Historic District. Properties here are well-preserved 19th-century buildings in Greek Revival, Italianate and Romanesque styles. Roxbury was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1989. Nubian Square was recently added as a National Historic District just a few years ago and is located just off Interstate 93, only five miles from Boston’s Logan International Airport. Lower Roxbury is also an accessible community for walkers and bicyclists, with several bus and train stops throughout the neighborhood.
